The Wyrd of the Geats is a roleplaying game set in the world of Beowulf, the oldest surviving poem in the English language, which tells the tale of a Geatish warrior-hero. Written in the 10th century but describing events and characters of the 6th (some of whom are verifiably historical), the poem ends with the death of Beowulf in the act of slaying a fire-breathing dragon, and with a lament for his death and dark speculations about the future of the Geats without their king. The events of the game follow on from that point in the narrative.
The game is played face-to-face in Doncaster by invitation only – you know who you are. Active players are encouraged to contribute creative writing and illustrations. Once the game and site are more mature I may open this latter aspect to a wider group, if there is any interest.
