War Shield | Around a yard in diameter a war shield is made from planks of linden wood, faced with leather and held together with iron fittings and an iron boss behind which is a single grip. It may be used to block or parry and may also be used as an offensive weapon. Designed to be used in a Shieldburh (shieldwall), in addition to the passive defence of +2 to the wielder (added to Defence), it confers a +1 to the passive defence of the persons to either side. A war shield is encumbering and reduces the maximum roll for a run by 1 hex.

Buckler | Of similar construction to a War Shield but smaller at around an ell (18 inches) in diameter and lighter. Less encumbering than a war shield it may still be used to block or parry and may be used as an offensive weapon. It offers a passive defence of +1 (added to Defence). However, it does not offer the same advantages as a War Shield in the Shieldburh.
